University of Wroclaw by Night

Did you ever try to take a night shot without a tripod? First thing you try is to put the camera on something stable to keep it steady. In this case, unfortunately there was nothing stable around. So best thing I could do is to put the cam on the ground and keep it steady with my hand. Obviously that took me a lot of shots to be somewhat pleased with the result. Luckily things changed now that I have my tripod.

On the photo you see the main building of the University of Wroclaw (Uniwersytet Wrocławski). Established in 1702 the University of Wroclaw is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Central Europe.

The Tumski Bridge (Most Tumski) in Wroclaw, also called Lovers Bridge or Cathedral Bridge, leads to the Cathedral Area of Wroclaw. The name Lovers Bridge it got from the countless locks on it with which lovers are symboling their love. And the reason for the name Cathedral Bridge you can see in the background of the photo, the two towers of the Wroclaw Cathedral.

Włodkowica 21

Włodkowica 21

Włodkowica 21 is a bar in the Jewish area of Wroclaw. The interior is quite dark and as it was summer when we’ve been there, almost everybody was sitting outside so we had a big room in the back of the bar for ourself. It’s been a good time there and places like that create much stronger memory than any of those new and fancy bars which look the same all over the world.

Youth of the Nation

Inside Wroclaw University

The picture shows the inside of the University in Wrocław. Better: The department of polish philology.
For me as an economist, it was always unclear how people can dedicate their life to their language and literature. But especially if you got taught a bit about polish history, you know how important that was and still is.
One of the main reason we have a polish state today, is because the polish people always kept their language, even if their state wasn’t existing for a long time. So if you know that, you get a feeling that this building of the university might be one of the most important places for the nation.
